Famille Verte Rouleau Vase

康熙 Kangxi period
(1661–1722)
China

Glazed porcelain, with enamel, 44.5cm tall

cat# 1401160

The famille verte color palate derives from Ming Dynasty Wucai (5-color) ware which was fired with underglaze blue enamel. During the Kangxi period the potters continued to use the five colors (green, yellow, copper red, aubergine, and blue) but the blue was now applied over the glaze, with a clear green predominating.
