The kui is a characteristic vessel type in the Dawenkou and Longshan cultural remains. This example is very similar to kui found in burials of the Dawenkou excavated at Dawenkou and Xixiahou in Shandong province.

The rounded body of triangular section raised on three elongated conical legs, applied around the sides with a 'rope-twist' band which terminates at the base of the arched, strap handle, decorated on top with deep parallel scoring and arched to join the neck below the everted rim which continues into an up-thrust spout.
